In an April 29 press release, Luther College announced a residential campus partnership that will allow a cohort of Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) students to live on the Luther campus.
Beginning in the fall 2025 semester, between 20 and 50 NICC students will have the option to live on the third floor of the Larsen building, a facility that combines dormitory, classroom and office space. The students will attend classes at the NICC Calmar campus but will have access to Luther’s dining services, athletic facilities and Preus Library.
NICC students will be required to follow both the NICC student code of conduct and Luther’s tenant expectations. Luther College President Brad Chamberlain emphasized the unique benefits of residential living.
“We know the power of the residential campus experience, and we want to share the positive benefits of community with NICC students,” Chamberlain said. “We look forward to them becoming a positive addition to our campus community.”
The partnership follows Luther’s recent efforts to improve transfer pathways through collaborations with institutions across Iowa. Those efforts include joining the Iowa Private Transfer Collective and reviewing regional course offerings to align them with Luther’s curriculum. NICC Interim President David Dahms spoke on the benefits of such partnerships and initiatives.
“We’re excited to launch this innovative partnership with Luther College, which will provide housing opportunities that enhance the overall college experience for NICC students,” Dahms said. “This collaboration supports and enhances our students’ academic and personal growth while building a stronger bridge between two outstanding institutions. Our partnerships with four-year colleges like Luther College are a key part of our commitment to student success and opportunity.”
