Luther College held a Constitution Day celebration in Dahl Centennial Union on Sept. 17, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Carly Foster, professor of political science, led the Constitutional Law class in this celebration. Activities surrounding the festivities included constitution tic tac toe, constitution cup pong, jeopardy, spinny wheels, with several prizes including your very own pocket constitution.
Sep. 17th marks National Constitution Day, a celebration of the signing of the U.S. constitution and a day to celebrate U.S. citizenship.
“There’s actually a federal law that requires all colleges to have some sort of college wide opportunity around the constitution,” Foster said.
Because the constitution is the structural framework of our legal system, Foster emphasized that a day to teach about and celebrate the constitution is important for all students. Students gathered together after approximately two weeks of preparation, excited to put on this community event.
“It’s been a great opportunity to showcase what we’re learning in our constitutional law class,” said Rachel Jorgensen (‘26). “We’re really excited to be able to put it all to action and showcase it all for you guys today.”
Constitution Day will be held annually on or around September 17th as a way to get students engaged and learning about the founding of our country.
